Back to the Basics - Temperature Controls

This month we are discussing the basics of temperature controls. We will cover the idea behind open protocol systems, what types there are, what the advantages and disadvantages are, and how they were developed. We will also discuss the basic architecture of a system and how open protocol fits into it. In our modern designs we are also integrating other systems into the Building Auotomation System for a smart building. We will cover what is being integrated today and how this is advantageous to the building owner and maintenance personnel. Make sure to join us this Wednesday to gather some knowledge and earn another PDH certificate.

For those who missed the 2008 AHR Expo in New York City there is always next year for the Chicago show. The word on eveyone's lips this year was "Green". From the products on the showcase floor to the technical presentations it was a guidance for sustainable design.

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday, and I wish a Happy New Year to everyone in 2008! I'm sure we'll have a fun filled year as we ahve several excellent topics coming up. I would like to thank Jerry Cohen for a wonderful introduction to Psychrometrics in December, and thank you as well to everyone that made it through our first major snowfall that morning. This month we will be covering Variable Refrigerant Flow Technology which is quickly becoming a popular system design. It currently is being installed in ASHRAE's new headquarters and has been written up in several magazines covering LEED buildings, hospitals, hotels and retrofits to name a few. I would recommend that everyone come to this meeting to get an undersanding of this system, how it operates and how it can help us design more energy efficient buildings. You may have heard of this system and have questions on the operation or design, so be sure to show up and get your questions answered. Also note on February 1st I will be presenting a seminar on various types of energy recovery that are available in the market today. More details will be coming, but be sure to mark that date down on your calendar. In the meantime I hope you stay warm, enjoy the snow and drive safely.
